Didn’t even get to use the sponge before it ripped! :/, June 15, 2013

I was really excited to try this product after reading a phenomenal review about it being a great dupe to the very popular Beauty Blender sponge. I like to gently wash any brushes, sponges ect. With a gentle face wash or baby shampoo before I first use them in case somebody in store had pulled it out and touched or used it (the packaging makes that very easy for someone to do that!) As I was gently washing it with very little Purity Face Wash, it ripped! Then again in another spot! Never even got to touch it to my face! Incredibly disappointed! The only reason I still gave two stars is because it was only $5 so I didn’t feel like I lost a fortune by purchasing this!
    * Did not purchase from this seller…purchased at a Wal-Mart store.

I was hoping for better results, but perhaps it’s the product I am using in conjunction with the sponge. To clean it, I highly recommend using a bar of soap! I watch a video on youtube and then tried it and my sponge has stayed very clean!

Let me start by saying that I have never used the Beauty Blender, the thought of spending that kind of money on a sponge just makes me sick to my stomach. I was pretty excited to find this at Wal-Mart. At first when learning how to use it, I found the shape to be awkward and wished it had a flat bottom like the BB. I have had it about 6 months now and have gotten used to the shape and in fact prefer it because I use this sponge for everything. I use one end for foundation/concealer and the other end for my cream contour, and I’m seriously considering getting another to use for crème blush and highlighter. As I said, I have had this sponge for 6 months but it is my second sponge. The first one ripped while washing it after the first use. I have been more careful with the second sponge and it has lasted 6 months of use and washings. Granted I don’t use it everyday because I don’t wear makeup everyday and I don’t wash it every time I use it (don’t judge me). You do have to be exceptionally careful when washing it. How I clean mine is to put it in a jar with hot water, a splash of vinegar, and a squirt of liquid dish soap. I put the lid on the jar and shake the crap out of it for 3-5 minutes. Sometimes I repeat with clean water. Then hold under running water and squeeze it out by holding it between both hands and squishing it flat like a pancake. Repeat until no more bubbles come out, then let air dry. The color of my makeup remains on the sponge but I’m fairly confident that it is clean. I might try the other reviewer’s suggestion of rubbing it on a bar of soap and see it that helps the staining. You want to use this sponge damp because it expands and becomes more “bouncy”. To dampen it, hold it under running water then squeeze it out by pressing it flat between your hands. Repeat 3-4 times until it is fully expanded. The last time you squeeze it out, wrap it in a towel first to absorb any excess water, then you’re ready to go! To apply my foundation, I put some on the back of my hand first. I dab the sponge in the foundation and then pat it onto my face. No rubbing, only patting or “bouncing” motions. This method gives the most flawless airbrush finish and it makes building the coverage of your foundation very easy. My makeup has never looked better.
