Fabulous moisturizer, even better when used with a couple of other products, August 30, 2013

This Olay product is a great moisturizer. It helped with my very dry skin, plumping up my skin, so the lines weren’t as noticeable and made my skin softer. It feels wonderful on your skin, absorbs well, and it isn’t greasy. My favorite. I give it 5 stars for its moisturizing effect on your skin, but I take a 1/2 star off because the effects don’t last long. I look great and refreshed for awhile, but eventually, as with all moisturizers, the fine lines and dryness come back. I also tend to have severe dry patches that creep up, especially in the winter when the air is dry and cold. This improves them tremendously, but hasn’t gotten rid of them. To be fair, I did not find anything in the drugstore that would actually “cure” my skin, but this moisturizer comes the closest. It’s the best moisturizer and lasts the longest of all the moisturizers I’ve tried.

I wanted to see if I could actually change the condition of my skin, and have skin that was permanently line free and soft. I won’t go into all of my trials and errors, here are some of the things I found effective so you can avoid my guinea pig routine. For reducing lines, the best product was RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream, 1-Ounce. I would give it 5 stars, but it is STRONG, so down to 4 stars. It says to use it every day, but trust me, don’t, it can burn your skin. A few days in a row, then break for a day. I still use it when I need a little oomph, but use it for a day or two and then off. If you want to get rid of wrinkles, this will do the job. You need a good moisturizer with it, because the major drawback to all the retinol products is that they dry your skin.

I did some more research to see if there is some way to actually change your skin so that it is younger looking permanently. I read a book by Dr. Oz that talks about what your body needs to stay young as long as possible. The chapter on skin was enlightening – our skin needs basic vitamins (A, B, C, E), omega 3’s and fatty acids to keep it healthy and build the collagen and elastin that keep it firm and young looking. I couldn’t find anything except the usual moisturizers, then I read about oil for skin care and found a long list of plant oils that have the vitamins and fatty acids Dr. Oz said were important. I bought some argan oil, and that’s when I started to see a change in my skin that lasts long term. I looked for some products that would give me more of the vitamins, etc. and found Bel Essence All-Natural Anti-Wrinkle Treatment – Intensive Anti Aging, Facial Lift Skin Care Formula – 1.5oz that has natural plant oils (9!) with high concentrations of all the nutrients Dr. Oz talked about. This worked even better than the plain argan oil. Amazing. Using the cream with the Olay gave me both the immediate effects of a great moisturizer and long term change. After several months, even if I missed a day or two with my skincare routine, my skin was still softer, and with fewer lines. After several months of using both together along with the retinol products (not every day!), I noticed that lines were almost gone, and now, after a year, I barely have any lines on my forehead or around my eyes – even when I miss my daily skin routine.

I am very happy to report that after sticking with these products, that my skin is now, in my early 50’s, younger looking and softer than when I was in my 40’s. When people guess my age, the guess is 38-40, which I happily take. And I am always being asked what I do to have my skin look this good. I recommend the combination of all three.

I tried this one while hiding out from the world in Crisfield, Maryland for the Christmas-New Year holiday season with my relatives. I like it a lot! I am an “Olay” fan anyway, but have also used some other products. I heard on the TV that the Olay Regenerist line was “the best” or something like that, so here is my story:

It has a nice creamy texture. It goes on your face smooth and it just really feels good going on. It does have a semi-heavy scent blast that hits you when you put the first smear on, but it is not overwhelming and it seems to disipate quickly. My preference would be to have it without the scent. The cream just feels really good going on your face, kind of like putting your face on a cool satin pillow. The cream soaks in really nice too. It does not feel like it’s going to rub off on the pillow when you hit the bed 5 minutes later like some other creams do. It also does not feel sticky like some creams do. After 4 days use on my face and neck, morning and evening, my face and neck feel really nice and soft (silky soft). I would think (based on my initial results) that this cream would have really nice results when used over an extended period of time.

I believe this cream holds its own against the other face products that I use, which include the Victoria Principal line, the Olay line, and the Seacret line (in the malls, from the Dead Sea). (I switch around between the products.)

The directions are really hard to read on this 1.7 oz red jar but they say the usual. They tell you to apply in small circular motions and avoid getting it into your eyes and to rinse with water if you do. (Duh. A no-brainer.) It also suggests that you focus on areas like the brow and jaw line. Olay is a Proctor and Gamble product.

I think it is also important to tell you that I am NOT one of those 25 year olds who has young skin anyway and is trying to tell you how beautiful my skin is. LOL. No offense, but the young whippersnappers haven’t had time to mess up their skin yet! I am 60 years old and am very pleased with my skin. It is equally important to tell you that I did nothing special to my skin until about 4 years ago when I began a regular face cream routine. Those 4 years have paid off big time, so if you think it is too late or you are to old to bother, that is probably not true. I have had plenty of compliments on my skin.

With all that said, I recommend a good quality face cream, before bed and upon waking. This (and the other Olay products) seem to be worth your time and money. When you do your face, include your neck too. It shows. Rub it on in small circles, like they suggest, and rub up (not down). Ohhhh, might I also suggest no frowning. Only laugh lines are allowed 🙂

I used this creme for years and it was perfect for my sensitive skin until recently. It was as good as expensive department store brands. However, the last jar (unscented) caused stubborn dry patches, clogged pores and breakouts. No more soft skin. The creme’s texture wasn’t as fine either. Luckily, I kept the box it came in. Checked the ingredients. Gone is the marine protein. Added are cheap fillers like olive oil and nylon. The olive oil base also wrecks makeup. Sadly, this creme is just another chemical-laden drugstore product now. My local Walgreens sells it for $32.99. I reported this bad experience to Olay and they are refunding my money via one of their company-issued debit cards. Now I have to go through the hassle of finding a reasonably priced replacement for the original great product.
