6 oz USA Blue Polishing Buffing Compound Rouge - Plastic, Synthetics - High Luster

  • The professional choice for making plastics, synthetics, non-ferrous metals look better than new
  • Hold against spinning buffing wheel or rub on cloth; contains natural light abrasive agents
  • Provides cut & color, excellent for removing fine scratches from plastic, polycarbonate; high luster
  • Large 6 oz 5" x 1" block is easier to use with powered buffers, lasts for dozens of polishing jobs
  • Available in several colors/compositions for wide variety of materials and results; made in USA

Metal polishing compounds that come in a wax, paraffin-oil or grease-based block/bar are often referred to generically as 'jeweler's rouge'. Rouge is French for red, and jeweler's rouge is a specific type of polishing compound that contains ferrous oxides (which give it the red color) and is used most typically to polish precious metals. We offer several different compounds (including red jeweler's rouge!) that contain various natural minerals and particles that color the block - each formulated for a specific cutting, polishing or buffing effect. When using with power buffer or polisher on non-metallic surfaces like plastic, use caution to prevent friction heat from warping/deforming workpiece.

Used on plastic eyeglass frames, October 15, 2013

I used this polishing compound with a cotton buffing wheel on a Dremel tool to remove some deterioration (white hazing & fine pitting) that I had on the sides of my favorite pair of plastic eyeglass frames. It worked great and my frames have that glossy brand new shine again.

    Couple notes:

    – This is a solid block of polishing compound and the packaging says it’s for buffing wheels though it’s not shown in the item description picture. Not sure how effective it is w/o a buffing wheel. The compound turns very soft w/ the friction of the buffing wheel.

    – If you’re using it with a Dremel like I did, be careful not to keep the buffing wheel at one spot for too long at high RPM as you can melt the plastic. I did this but fortunately it was very tiny and on the underside of the frame where it’s not noticeable. Don’t worry; it’s pretty safe if you keep the buffing wheel moving back and forth.

Wasn’t sure how to use this. Took a soft cloth, wet the corner and hand buffed my piece since I did not have a dremel kit. It worked fine. It took Pitts out of my silver medal. Thanks so much!

I was trying to get some scratches from a black faceted stone-shaped piece of glass in an old brooch, and it did not get it out. I used a Dremmel with a polishing cloth to try and add some buffeting pressure. Just think the scratches were too deep. That’s the only thing I tried it on.
